Kismayo or Chisimaio is the port city of Lower Jubba region and the commercial capital of Jubbaland State. The town is situated 485 km from southwest of Mogadishu and near the Jubba River where the river meets the Indian Ocean.
The airport and seaport of Kismayo serve as the major income generators for the local administration. Key economic activities in the district are of Agriculture, Livestock and Fishery production.
On August 4, 2016 a team of engineers led by SFF-LD engineer went to visit Kismayo to kick-start the preliminary and detailed design of the Regional Court. The team consisted of engineers, architects and environmental experts from Ecotech, the consulting engineering firm contracted by SFF-LD to carry out the design of the new Regional Court.
SFF-LD PIU Engineer and Ecotech engineers and architects conducted an all-inclusive consultation meeting with all relevant authorities of Jubbaland including the Deputy Minister of Justice and Religious Affairs Mr. Aden Insar, Chairman of the Appeals Court, chairman Lower Court and the Attorney General of Jubbaland State. During the meeting, various design options was brainstormed and discussed.
Finally SFF-LD Engineer, Ecotech Engineers and Jubbaland authorities came to an agreement to design of three main buildings and two small offices.
On 19th of July 2017, PIU team went to Kismayo to officially launch the sub-project accompanied by State Minister of Ministry of Finance and two members of parliament representing Jubbaland at the Federal parliament. In the fourth quarter of 2017, the construction of regional law courthouse in Kismayo has made a significant progress.The project is currently at approximately at 75% completion.
